Proceedings of GBUC’s Alumni Meeting Held on Sunday, 22 January 2012

PROCEEDINGS OF GHANA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY ALUMNI MEETING HELD ON SUNDAY, 22 JANUARY 2012.

Members present ranged from the 2009 year group to the current 2011 year group who had their graduation a couple of weeks back. It was all joy for us to have met few weeks after graduation which took place on the 14 of January 2012.

Highlights from the meeting were centred on the following.

-            The need to intensify advertisement for the University College in order to capture more students in the midst of intense competition from both public and private universities. It was agreed that the school should find resources to embark on a rigorous marketing campaign using both print and electronic media. The Alumni were also called upon to encourage persons seeking quality tertiary education to choose Ghana Baptist University College.

-            It was suggested that the owners of G.B.U.C. i.e. Ghana Baptist Convention should step up its financial support towards the development of the institution.

-            Also the alumni appealed to the University authorities to offer research grants for lecturers and past students who may want to continue their education for PHD and masters so that they can in turn help develop the University academically. To this end the authorities were urged to take on some of the graduates for their national service so that they can act as teaching assistants to support the already overburdened staff.

-            The Alumni were also encouraged to visit the website of the University to access information and that the alumni portal should be regularly updated.

-            Other internal issue such as certificates, attendance of meetings and the need for members to pay their dues and set up a fund for the alumni to support the school was discussed. The President hinted that the alumni made a pledge of GHC 500 to be given to the University on behalf of alumni during the just ended presidential ball.
