RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS AT THE GHANA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, (GBUC)
Research is an integral part of all academic institutions like ours. The University College therefore cherishes the need to encourage vigorous research among the faculty, Students and Staff.
Research and Training
For the purpose of encouraging effective research and training as well as building the capacity of the staff of the University College, A RESEARCH AND TRAINING COMMITTEE OR BODY is in place to oversee and delineate areas of research, develop policies on capacity building, identifying possible links and collaboration with institutions and organizations (nationally and internationally). A Journal Committee, which is a subsidiary body of the Research and Training Committee, is on the forefront of identifying publishing houses and journals for publication of Research Works.
In line with our vision to be a centre of excellence for creative teaching and learning, innovation and relevant research, the school for a start, instituted its own journal (i.e Journals of Excellence in leadership and stewardship; JELS for short), to provide the avenue for lecturers to publish. Its status is gradually being raised to meet global scholastic demands.
Departmental Research Retreat
As part of the Training process, as well as injecting efficiency and effectiveness in our research and publications in the University College, the Research committee organizes departmental research retreats every semester. The move has two-fold objectives.
- Provide a platform for Senior Members to present work in progress and
- Develop a common Research Format for use by both senior members and students in the University College.
This approach is very refreshing and rewarding. Follow-up programmes are in place, in the form of annual faculty papers and other works in progress. Topics of such papers are critized and modified for applicants to have well refined work for publication.
Research Collaboration among the Faculty
The effort to do research and publish the output is now easier. Faculty or Senior Members have the liberty to jointly research and publish the research output together to enable them enjoy equal credit for it. The approach also allows Faculty-Student collaborations as far as research and publication is concerned. To enhance the efficiency of students and ensure standardized organization of students’ project works, a thesis/dissertation guide is in place to guide students in their final year research work.
